Breakfast, When You're Running Late

So here's the recipe, before I give my 2 cents of the major fast food franchise rip offs.

Honey Maple Greek Yogurt

1/2 cup Great Value Greek Vanilla Nonfat Yogurt (32oz.)

1/4 cup Great Value Maple Pecan Granola (11oz)

2 tbsp Raw Honey (32oz)

Now, here's my 2 cents on the Fast Food Breakfast Trap.

Everything today is driven by convenience, in fact companies want to make things so convenient that money and health aspects fly right out of the window. Ordering food via an app on your phone, that is either ready for you to pick up on your way to work or is delivered to you makes life simpler right?

I am certainly no health guru or financial expert, but I do possess the ability to think for myself and weigh out the pros and cons.

The recipe above has the size of the items I purchased beside them. Those items will make 6 to 8 servings and I purchased them for $16.87 + tax. That is less than $3 per serving!!! Also keep in mind that the recipe above comes in at approximately 360 calories!

Now let's say I go through the local mega franchise drive thru and I order one....just one... bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit. That biscuit alone is almost 500 calories, and approximately $5.00 before taxes and that even depends on where you live.

Fast Food is a trap! A delicious one, but a trap all the same. Do I love a good burger and soft drink? Absolutely! Do I love fries and nuggets when I'm on the run? Yes I do! My clothes on the other hand do not appreciate the extra calories or the grease that seeps out of the mass produced food chains.

Side Note - Cooking at home and making healthier choices will not keep you mess-free. I'm still messy!

I know that what I prepare in my kitchen versus what I can pick up in the drive thru will be 2 things:

  1. Cheaper (because everything is expensive these days)

  2. Healthier (because I know how it's being prepared and what's going in my body)

So I hope this helps you see not only the health benefits to preparing your own foods, but also the financial benefits.

Until next time,

Wishing you yummy dishes!
